6 Mei 1937. Het enorme Duitse luchtschip de Hindenburg staat, na een lange trans- Atlantische reis, op het punt veilig te landen op haar eindbestemming, New York. Duizenden in extase verkerende mensen staan te popelen om de mensen aan boord te verwelkomen en hun verhalen te horen. Zo ver zal het echter nooit komen… Volkomen onverwacht slaat het noodlot toe. Uit het niets ontbrandt het imposante luchtschip tijdens de daling in een enorme vuurzee. De passagiers en bemanning hebben nog maar 2 keuzes, of levend verbranden of een zekere dood tegemoet springen. De Hindenburg tragedie is in omvang vergelijkbaar met de Titanic ramp. Tot die rampzalige dag werd de zeppelin als hèt luxe vervoermiddel van de toekomst gezien. Na de Hindenburg is de droom van het ultieme luchtschip voorgoed voorbij. Was het een constructiefout? Bliksem? Of zelfs sabotage?
